14:00 – 15:30 – Preconference Workshop for Doctoral Students: “Effective Presentation Skills for Academic Conferences,” Mary Marcel, Bentley University
Doctoral and Masters’ students often face challenges when presenting their academic research effectively to academic audiences. This workshop is designed to addresses these challenges by focusing on the major steps required to develop effective presentations, including how to (a) identify, clarify , and organize the essential research information to include, (b) determine the most effective ways to visualize specific research data, and (c) incorporate these visualizations and information into succinct slide sets.

16:00 – 17:30 – Preconference Workshop for Doctoral Students – “Developing Effective Experiential Service-Learning Collaborations,” Shawn Hauserman, Bentley University
This interactive workshop will focus on the benefits of incorporating academic service-learning, into a course, and the significance of developing collaborative service-learning partnerships. After a brief overview of experiential learning methods and their benefits, the first hour will guide participants through the key elements of creating meaningful service-learning projects that advance student learning, faculty and university connection to community, and address problems identified by nonprofit community partners. The second hour will focus on how to develop successful service-learning collaborations with nonprofit community partner agencies.
Special Instructions: Participants are encouraged to bring a copy of a course syllabus (either existing, or being developed) suited for a course project that would advance student understanding of content and benefit the operations of a nonprofit community partner agency.
